Yin yoga is a practice by which poses are held for a minimum of 3 minutes getting deep into the connective tissue (fascia) muscles, ligaments and tendons.
Poses are held in a relaxed mediative state promoting mindfulness and calming of the nervous system.
Yin yoga promotes a sense of well being for not only the physical body by the release of blockages in the energy lines of the body (meridians) however yin increasing circulation through the body, improving flexibility and aids in joint mobility. Yin yoga also reduces stress and anxiety and balances out the internal organs and improves the flow of energy or chi in the body.
I have been teaching yin yoga for just over 5 years and yoga for over 7 years. I also have over 300 hours of Yin, training physical and emotional clearing of inner body work.
I have found in my own practice yin yoga/meditation a valuable component to my own recovery and maintaining a self of awareness within. Clients when beginning practice are usually a little hesitate to sitting still in static poses and most come feeling somewhat anxious, however it is not long in the practice with breath awareness, meditation, calm music and connecting into self, they begin to feel the affects of the nervous system calming them almost instantly.
